Embracer, the company that owns Lord of the Rings, is splitting into three separate companies focused on games and entertainment: Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends.
Asmodee Group is known for creating and distributing tabletop games. They also have a collection of intellectual properties and run various game studios.
Coffee Stain & Friends focuses on both independent and high-quality mainstream games, which include free-to-play games for PCs, consoles, and mobile devices. Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends specializes in high-budget game development and publishing for PCs and consoles. They also manage the Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider brands.
The plan is for Embracer to give shares of Asmodee and Coffee Stain & Friends to its current shareholders, and these parts of the business will be listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange. Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends will stay part of Embracer, which will also get a new name when Coffee Stain & Friends is spun off.

Kicki Wallje-Lund, who leads Embracer’s board, believes this change will enhance the company’s value for shareholders. She thinks separating the companies will allow each one to focus better on what they do best, offering clearer and more appealing investment options to both current and potential shareholders.
The decision came after looking at different ways to improve the business, and the board feels this is the best way to ensure future success. Source
