Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the upcoming political thriller series called The Agency on Paramount+ With Showtime. The series stars Michael Fassbender as Martian, a secret CIA agent, and is executive-produced by George Clooney.
In the series, Wright will portray Henry, the CIA’s director of operations. He oversees undercover agents and acts as a mentor to Martian.
The Agency is inspired by the popular French series The Bureau, which aired from 2015 to 2020. The story centers on Martian, who is told to leave his undercover life and move back to London Station. As he reconnects with a past love, his personal and professional lives collide, leading to dangerous situations involving international intrigue and espionage.
Wright has recently been seen in the 2023 film American Fiction where he played Thelonious Monk Ellison. He is also set to appear in the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us and in Spike Lee’s upcoming film High and Low alongside Denzel Washington. Wright first gained fame for his role in Angels in America on Broadway and its later HBO adaptation. His notable work includes appearances in Shaft, Syriana, Westworld, Boardwalk Empire, and several films by Wes Anderson.
The Agency is produced by Showtime Studios and 101 Studios. Along with Clooney and Heslov, executive producers include Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, David C. Glasser, and others. The first two episodes are directed and executive-produced by Joe Wright.
