Amazon MGM Studios has finished shooting their new movie Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and it’s set to be released worldwide in theaters on February 20, 2026. This comedy features Hugh Jackman and includes a talented group of actors like Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, Tosin Cole, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Conleth Hill, and Mandeep Dhillon.
The story is about George Hardy, played by Hugh Jackman, a shepherd who treats his sheep like family and only shears them for wool. He entertains them by reading murder mysteries aloud, pretending the sheep understand the stories. Surprisingly, the sheep not only understand, but also spend hours debating who the culprit in the stories could be.
The plot thickens when George is found dead, and it’s clear he was murdered. The sheep believe they know how to crack the case based on the mysteries they’ve heard. With the local police officer, Tim Derry, played by Nicholas Braun, inexperienced in solving big cases, the sheep decide it’s up to them to find the killer. This means they have to leave their familiar meadow for the first time and dive into the complexities of the human world.
Kyle Balda directs the movie, marking his first time directing a live-action film after working on animated hits like Minions: The Rise of Gru. The film is produced by Lindsay Doran along with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Aditya Sood, and Tim Wellspring are executive producers. The screenplay is crafted by Craig Mazin, inspired by Leonie Swann’s best-selling book from 2005.
The film’s artistic team includes director of photography George Steel, production designer Suzie Davies, costume designer Rosa Dias, and hair and make-up designer Sharon Martin. Editing is done by Paul Machliss, and visual effects are handled by Graham Page with Framestore creating the sheep visuals.
The cast’s representatives include Hamilton Hodell and CAA for Thompson, and UTA among others for Braun. Other cast members have representation from various notable agencies like WME, Anonymous Content, and Curtis Brown. Mazin is represented by CAA and lawyer Gretchen Rush, while Swann’s rights are managed by Agentur Poppenhusen in collaboration with Created By and Paul & Peter Fritz AG. Source
