Monia Chokri’s romantic comedy The Nature of Love has been picked up by Music Box Films for release in the United States. The film, which won over Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer at the Cesar Awards for Best Foreign-Language Film, debuted to positive reviews at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard and later premiered in North America at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Starring Magalie Lépine Blondeau and Pierre-Yves Cardinal, the movie tells the story of Sophia, a 40-year-old philosophy professor who leaves her stable marriage for a passionate relationship with Sylvian, a craftsman renovating her country house. Their love story is complicated by their differing backgrounds and perspectives.
Brian Andreotti of Music Box Films praised Chokri’s approach, saying she breathes new life into the romantic comedy genre with her unique perspective. The film, produced by Metafilms and co-produced by MK Productions, is set to hit theaters in the summer, followed by a home entertainment release.
According to the producers at Metafilms, The Nature of Love offers a compelling exploration of both humor and love. Variety’s review hailed it as a sexy, funny treat that delivers insights about desire and familiarity without sacrificing comedy.
The deal for the film was negotiated by Andreotti from Music Box Films and Quentin Bohanna from MK2 on behalf of the filmmakers. Source
