A Dubai-based company called Cercamon has just taken on the global rights for a new Indonesian movie named “Crocodile Tears.” This news was shared during the FilMart event in Hong Kong.
The movie is a collaborative effort involving production companies from different countries: Talamedia from Indonesia, led by Mandy Marahimin; Singapore’s Giraffe Pictures, with Anthony Chen and Teoh Yi Peng at the helm; Acrobates Films from France, managed by Claire Lajoumard; Poetik Film from France too, with Christophe Lafont; and Germany’s 2Pilots Filmproduction, under Harry Flöter and Jörg Siepmann.
Negotiations for this deal were carried out by Sebastien Chesneau from Cercamon, Anthony Chen from Giraffe Pictures, and Mandy Marahimin from Talamedia.
“Crocodile Tears” marks the first full-length film by director Tumpal Tampubolon. It tells the story of Johan and his mother, who live in seclusion on a crocodile farm in West Java, Indonesia. Their quiet life, shared only with a white crocodile, gets turned upside down when Johan falls in love with a local girl named Arumi. This love triggers a series of events that could change their lives forever.
The movie is currently being finished up and is expected to be presented at film festivals in 2024. Tampubolon has previously gained attention for his short films, winning awards for his work.
Cercamon, led by Sebastien Chesneau since 2014, handles international sales for up to eight movies a year. They’ve worked with award-winning films before, and they’re excited to add “Crocodile Tears” to their collection, especially because of its unique story and setting in Southeast Asia.
