The film Wonka, exploring the early candy-making adventures of Willy Wonka, recently hit a milestone at the box office. On a recent Wednesday, it brought in $8 million, boosting its total earnings in the U.S. to over $100 million, precisely $102.5 million. Globally, the film is a hit, too, having gathered more than $270 million, which is great news for its production company, Warner Bros., and lead actor Timothée Chalamet.
Another movie, “Migration,” tells the story of a duck family’s adventures. Produced by Illumination and Universal, it secured the second spot at the box office, earning $6.3 million. So far, its U.S. earnings total $30.6 million. While it hasn’t reached the expected numbers yet, there’s hope that it will attract more viewers, especially families, during the holiday season.
Meanwhile, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is facing some challenges, earning only $5.9 million recently. This adds to its domestic total of $52.5 million. This movie signals the end of DC’s series of interconnected superhero films, a strategy that didn’t work as well as hoped, evidenced by underperforming titles like “The Flash” and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” Warner Bros. is planning a new direction for its superhero films under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who joined the company in 2022.
Warner Bros. has also released a musical version of “The Color Purple,” based on Alice Walker’s novel. It’s off to a strong start, earning $3.8 million and reaching $29 million after just three days in theaters. The film is directed by Blitz Bazawule and features actors Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, and Fantasia Barrino. It’s getting positive reviews and is considered a potential candidate for various awards.

Finally, there’s Sony’s romantic comedy Anyone but You. Featuring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, the film plays on the theme of unlikely romances. It earned $2.6 million recently, bringing its total U.S. earnings to $13.3 million. Given its production budget of $25 million, the film is performing reasonably well. Source
