Felicity Jones and Jonathan Bailey were previously involved in a comedy film called Maria directed by Simon Amstell, as reported by Variety. However, due to some scheduling conflicts and the impact of last year’s film industry strikes, both actors have stepped away from the project, which is currently on hold.
Initially announced at the Cannes Film Festival two years ago, the movie was about a woman named Maria, dealing with personal challenges and an unconventional relationship with her stepbrother Raffy. Jonathan Bailey was to play Maria’s boyfriend, and Jason Isaacs was cast as her father.
The film faced its first major issue when Bailey left for a different role. Although Isaacs stayed, Jones also eventually left the project. Efforts to find new actors were interrupted by the strikes in Hollywood, and during this time, Amstell moved on to other work.
Although the representatives for Amstell and the film’s sales team haven’t made any public comments, there’s hope the movie can restart with a new lineup of actors.
