The Motion Picture Association recently announced that Joker: Folie à Deux, the follow-up to the 2019 hit Joker, will have an R rating. This musical sequel, featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, earned its rating due to strong violence, frequent use of language, some sexual content, and brief nudity. This matches the rating of the first Joker film for its intense content.
In this new film, directed by Todd Phillips, Phoenix returns as the Joker, with Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn, his complex love interest. The cast also includes Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson.
While specific story details remain secret, it’s known from a Variety report that the film will include musical elements, with at least 15 classic songs being reimagined. One highlighted song is That’s Entertainment from the 1953 film The Band Wagon. There’s also talk of including a couple of new songs in the film.
