Jim Carrey is coming back as the wild scientist with impressive facial hair in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” This update is quite a surprise because, in the previous movie, Carrey’s character, Dr. Robotnik, seemed to have met a grim fate after falling from a giant robot. But, a scene after the credits hinted that he wasn’t found, suggesting he could return to continue his rivalry with Sonic.
The first two “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies did really well, earning a combined $870.8 million worldwide. This success has motivated Paramount, the company making these movies, to create not just another sequel but also a side series titled “Knuckles,” which will be available on Disney+. The news of Carrey’s return as Dr. Robotnik was hinted at with a teaser featuring his character’s laugh.
Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two films, will be directing this one as well. Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic again, the fast blue character from Sega’s video games. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno are producing the movie, which is set to be released on December 20, 2024.
