Milly Alcock, known for her role as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, is set to star as Supergirl in the upcoming DC Universe movie. James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are leading the new direction for the DC Universe, have chosen Alcock for the lead in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” The comic book series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely inspire this movie.
While the movie is still looking for a director, Ana Nogueira has been brought on board to write the script, having joined the project in November. James Gunn, who shared the news of Alcock’s casting on social media, hasn’t shared when she will first appear as Supergirl. However, there’s speculation that Supergirl might appear in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” before getting her own solo film.
Alcock, originally from Australia, began acting on Australian TV as a teenager. She gained significant attention and praise for her performance in “House of the Dragon,” capturing the ambition and spirit of her character before Emma D’Arcy took over the role due to a time jump in the series.
The character of Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, has been portrayed by various actresses over the years, including Melissa Benoist in the TV series “Supergirl” and Sasha Calle in the 2023 movie “The Flash.” However, Gunn is looking to bring a new perspective to the DC Universe with this casting.

In the Woman of Tomorrow comics, Kara Zor-El’s backstory is different from the traditional tale. Instead of leaving Krypton as a baby, she experiences the planet’s destruction at age 14 and then arrives on Earth, making her character tougher and more seasoned than previous iterations. Gunn has mentioned that this version of Supergirl will be unlike any we’ve seen before, highlighting a fresh start for the DCU. Source
