Steven Yeun recently spoke with Marc Malkin of Variety at the Louis Vuitton pop-up event in West Hollywood. During the conversation, Yeun discussed his departure from the “Thunderbolts” project, attributing part of his decision to last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike. Yeun expressed that changes over time influenced his decision to leave. He praised the film’s director, Jake Schreier, anticipating an outstanding job from him.
Yeun revealed his desire to be part of a Marvel movie. His association with “Thunderbolts” was first mentioned in February, but Marvel had not made an official announcement regarding his role. The film, directed by “Paper Towns” filmmaker Jake Schreier and written by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin (based on an initial draft by “Black Widow” writer Eric Pearson), experienced a halt in production in May due to the WGA strike and has not resumed filming since the end of the Hollywood strikes.
Steven Yeun cites last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike as one reason behind his decision to drop out of Marvel's #Thunderbolts.
“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it.”

Discussing his exit from the film, Yeun mentioned the numerous email drafts he sent to express his regret for withdrawing. When asked about future Marvel projects he’d be interested in, Yeun said it was too early to discuss specifics, joking that he might have upset too many people with his departure. He hinted at having some ideas for future roles but chose to keep them private, believing that sharing them might jinx his chances. Source
