Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, a big-budget movie with Jason Momoa, isn’t attracting many viewers. It’s a follow-up to the successful Aquaman movie from 2018, but it’s not as popular. The movie cost $205 million to make but earned only $84 million in the U.S. and $258 million worldwide in two weeks. It’s similar to other superhero movies this year, like “The Flash” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which also didn’t do very well.
In contrast, Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet as the famous candy maker, is doing really well. It’s back at number one in ticket sales, making $23.9 million over a weekend and $31 million by New Year’s Day. So far, it’s earned $142 million in the U.S. and $386.9 million all over the world. It cost $100 million to make.
This holiday season didn’t have a super big movie like in previous years. Even so, the movie industry made more money this year than in the last few years, earning over $9 billion in 2023. This is still less than before the COVID pandemic, when yearly earnings were around $10 to $11 billion.
A very hearty congratulations goes out to Warner Brothers for defeating Warner Brothers at the box office. https://t.co/v6h3FWZq6g

Other popular movies now include Migration, a funny cartoon that’s made $58.8 million in North America and $100 million worldwide. All of Us Strangers made $232,909 from four theaters, a per-venue average of $58,000. Anyone but You, a comedy with Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, has made $27.5 million in two weeks. The Boys in the Boat, directed by George Clooney, and The Iron Claw, featuring Zac Efron, are also getting a good start in theaters. Source
