Warner Bros. has taken on the job of releasing a new drama movie from the Philippines called “Under Parallel Skies” in cinemas across Southeast Asia. This movie is getting a lot of attention because it’s going to be shown for the first time at the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong this weekend.
The movie, directed by Sigrid Bernardo, tells the story of a single man from Thailand, played by the famous actor Win Metawin, who goes to Hong Kong to find his mom who has gone missing. There, he meets a Filipino woman who runs a hotel, played by Janella Salvador. She helps him deal with his feelings of love and loss while he’s in a strange city, showing how different cultures and identities can come together.
The story is set against the backdrop of Hong Kong, a place known for its large Filipino worker population, including many domestic helpers and hospitality staff. The film captures some of Hong Kong’s famous spots like Kowloon City and Tai O, thanks to the support from the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The filming took place over June and July 2023.

Warner Bros. plans to bring this movie to theaters in the Philippines starting April 17, followed by releases in Singapore and Thailand beginning in May.
Richard Juan, the CEO of 28 Squared Studios, the company behind the movie, shared his excitement about working with Warner Bros. He believes the movie is a perfect example of what can happen when everything falls into place perfectly for a film that crosses borders. Rico Gonzales from Warner Bros. Philippines mentioned that after seeing an early version of the movie, he felt compelled to share it with his higher-ups because of its strong storytelling.
This marks the first time Warner Bros. has decided to distribute a Filipino movie in theaters. Under Parallel Skies is also the debut project of 28 Squared, in collaboration with Two Infinity Entertainment from Hong Kong. Source
