A group of exciting British talents is coming together for an intriguing new film called Sunny Dancer, which is set to be introduced at the Cannes market. The movie features actors Bella Ramsey, Louis Partridge, and Ruby Stokes and is directed by George Jaques.
This project marks Jaques’ second major film, and Embankment Films will be in charge of global pre-sales, highlighting some of the brightest new stars in British cinema.
Sunny Dancer tells the story of Ivy, played by Ramsey, a teenager who is recovering from cancer. Despite her hesitations, her outspoken mother and well-meaning father encouraged her to attend a summer camp designed for young adults affected by cancer.
The camp, called Children Run Free Camp, aims to be a fun retreat but initially seems unappealing to Ivy thanks to its cheesy promotional video and overly sunny outlook.
Despite her initial reluctance, Ivy’s experience at the camp leads her to new friendships and even romance, helping her and others at the camp to find strength, laughter, and heart through their challenges.
Ken Petrie is producing the film alongside Jaques through their respective production companies, 27 Ten and Athenaeum Productions. At just 23, Jaques is already making a significant impact in the industry as a writer, producer, director, and actor.
He gained attention with his first feature, Black Dog, and has also acted in several television series. Bella Ramsey is known for her acclaimed role in The Last of Us, Louis Partridge has starred in the Enola Holmes series and has several exciting projects lined up, and Ruby Stokes has appeared in Netflix’s Lockwood & Co and the film Rocks, and previously worked with Jaques in Black Dog.
