ARP has acquired the French rights to Oh, Canada, a film directed by Paul Schrader and starring Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Michael Imperioli, and Jacob Elordi.
The announcement of the deal coincides with the movie’s upcoming premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Arclight is handling international sales for the film.
Based on Russell Banks’ novel Foregone, Oh, Canada is Schrader’s second adaptation of Banks’ work. The movie reunites Schrader with Gere, who previously collaborated on American Gigolo over 40 years ago.
The story revolves around Leonard Fife (played by Gere), a renowned documentary filmmaker who fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam War draft. As he battles cancer in Montreal, Fife agrees to one last interview, aiming to reveal his hidden truths and demystify his life. The film explores Fife’s revelations amidst the presence of his wife, producing partner, former student, and a team of filmmakers.
David Gonzales leads the production, with support from producers Tiffany Boyle, Luisa Law, Scott LaStaiti, and Meghan Hanlon. Arclight Films’ executives and a group of other producers are also involved in the project.
ARP expressed excitement about collaborating with Schrader and Gere on this project, emphasizing the film’s emotional depth and craftsmanship. They anticipate introducing Oh, Canada to French audiences with pride.
Arclight Films Chairman Gary Hamilton highlighted the talent involved in the film and the significance of premiering it at Cannes. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a remarkable project. Source
