Benoit Blanc is back to solve another mystery in Rian Johnson’s third Knives Out film, titled Wake Up Dead Man. Johnson announced the title and a 2025 release date in a teaser posted on X Friday morning.
In the 45-second video, Daniel Craig narrates, referencing the first two titles in the murder mystery franchise: 2019’s Knives Out and 2022’s Glass Onion. He says, In the beginning, the knives came out. Then, behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed.
Wake Up Dead Man will be distributed by Netflix as part of Johnson’s two-sequel deal with the streamer, worth $450 million. Despite the first film, distributed by Lionsgate, grossing $312 million globally, Netflix released Glass Onion with only a limited theatrical run, collecting just $13 million before it launched on streaming.
Johnson sparked excitement early Friday morning by posting a photo of a Pokémon egg on social media, hinting that something was about to be revealed. Ten minutes later, he wrote, I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how flexible the genre is.

There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and exploring that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies. We’re about to start production on the third one, and I’m very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.
Johnson has a busy schedule. The writer-director of Looper and Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is also working on Season 2 of his Peacock mystery series, Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne. Additionally, he and his producing partner Ram Bergman recently signed a two-picture deal with Warner Bros., where he will oversee two more films. Source
