Kaleidescape, a company known for making high-end movie players and servers, is branching out into the movie theater industry with a new service. This service is designed to make it easier for theaters to show older movies on demand. The goal is to fill up empty theater screens and help movie theaters and movie makers make more money by drawing in audiences who want to see these classic films on the big screen again.
Priscilla Morgan, the COO of Kaleidescape, mentioned that this service is all about bringing beloved movies back to theaters. This allows theaters to offer special screenings based on themes and meet their customers’ interests whenever they want.
The company, based in Mountain View, California, plans to sell its equipment to movie theaters, provide them with secure movie content, and ensure that the profits from ticket sales go directly to the movie studios and the theaters. This model has attracted several theater chains, such as Alamo, Brenden, and others, to join a trial run of this new offering.
Kaleidescape has even teamed up with its first major movie studio to supply films for this service, although they haven’t shared which studio it is.
Chris Johnson, the CEO of Classic Cinemas, expressed excitement about the potential of this service. He noted that while showing older films isn’t their main focus, it could still bring in significant extra income. He shared an example of how showing the Indiana Jones movies before the release of a new one in the series created a lot of excitement and drew in crowds.
