Hamptons Film’s 16th SummerDocs series is set to showcase three documentaries that hit at Sundance: Skywalkers: A Love Story, War Game, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. Artistic Director David Nugent and Chairman Emeritus Alec Baldwin from the Hamptons International Film Festival will lead discussions with the filmmakers and special guests attending the screenings.
The series begins on July 5 with the documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story by Jeff Zimbalist and Maria Bukhonina. This movie, which Netflix now owns the rights to, follows Moscow daredevils Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus as they climb the world’s tallest skyscraper and perform a risky stunt. Maria Bukhonina will join a Q&A session after the screening.
On July 20, War Game by Tony Gerber and Jesse Moss will be shown. This documentary envisions a future insurrection in the United States on January 6, 2025, and will include a Q&A with the filmmakers post-screening.
The series concludes on August 14 with Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, detailing the life of Christopher Reeve. Warner Bros. Discovery bought this movie after a heated bidding war. Reeve’s son, Will Reeve, will be present for a Q&A following the screening.
David Nugent shared that the goal each year is to select standout documentaries for the SummerDocs Series. Previous selections from this series, such as The Eternal Memory and Fire of Love, have received Academy Award recognition.
Anne Chaisson, Executive Director of Hamptons Film, highlighted that this year’s documentaries touch on critical contemporary issues like social media fame, America’s political divisions, and human resilience.
