The British Academy recently announced the early results for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, covering 24 categories. This year, there’s a lot of attention on two movies, “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.” Both movies have been nominated in 15 different categories, including for best film and director. Another movie, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” has also received 15 nominations, creating a tie between the three films. This is similar to last year’s situation, where “All Quiet on the Western Front” not only got 15 nominations but also won the best film award.
Several other movies are also doing well. “Poor Things” has nominations in 14 categories, “Maestro” in 12, and “Saltburn” in 11, though it didn’t get a nomination for best film. Films from Britain like “The Zone of Interest” and “All of Us Strangers” have each been nominated 10 times, including for best film. The movie “Wonka” has eight nominations, “How to Have Sex” has 6, and “Rye Lane” has 5. It’s important to note that “How to Have Sex” and “Rye Lane” are special because they are directed by first-time directors Molly Manning Walker and Raine Allen-Miller. Their lead actresses, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Vivian Oparah, have also been recognized in the director and leading actress categories alongside more well-known names.
Everyone is looking forward to January 18, when the final list of nominees will be announced. The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on February 18 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Source
