Box Office: Kung Fu Panda 4 Chopping Up $55 Million Opening Weekend, Dune 2 Rising Above $150 Million Domestic

Almost three months have gone by without a new animated movie in cinemas, but Kung Fu Panda 4 just came out, taking advantage of the fact that there haven’t been other movies for families recently. It did really well, making $19.4 million on its first day from over 4,000 cinemas. This is the best first-day earnings for a “Kung Fu Panda” movie since the first one in 2008, which made $20 million on day one. The fourth movie is expected to make $55 million in its opening weekend, which is more than what the second and third movies made when they first came out.

The movie, which was cheaper to make than the earlier ones, has received good reviews and audiences really seem to like it, giving it an “A-” grade. “Kung Fu Panda 4” might have some competition in a couple of weeks when a new “Ghostbusters” movie comes out, but for now, it’s expected to do well.

Jack Black is back as the voice of Po, who is now teaching others to be the Dragon Warrior and fighting a new villain, a chameleon sorceress. Many of the original actors have returned, and some new ones have joined the cast, including Awkwafina, Viola Davis, and Ke Huy Quan.

“Dune: Part Two” is also doing well, coming in second place after “Kung Fu Panda 4”. It made $12.3 million on Friday and is expected to reach a total of $150 million by the end of the weekend, surpassing the first “Dune” movie’s total earnings.

A horror movie called “Imaginary” is in third place, making $3.6 million on its opening day, and is expected to make around $10 million over the weekend. Despite not-so-great reviews, it’s doing okay for a movie with a smaller budget.

“Cabrini,” a movie about a Catholic missionary in 19th-century New York, is also new this weekend and is expected to make between $7 million and $8 million, landing in fourth place. It’s gotten great audience reviews, which could mean it’ll do well in the long run.

Finally, “Bob Marley: One Love,” a biopic about the musician, is expected to be in fifth place for the weekend, adding $4.2 million to its earnings. It’s been doing well since its release and might end up making more money than “Rocketman,” the Elton John biopic from 2019. Source
