Mean Girls, a film from Paramount, recently debuted in the top spot at the box office in the U.K. and Ireland, earning £3.2 million (about $4.1 million), as reported by Comscore. This strong opening pushed Warner Bros.’ Wonka to second place, which made £1.6 million, reaching a total of £58.3 million after seven weeks. Disney’s Poor Things came in third, making £1.09 million in its second weekend, with a total of £3.7 million so far.
Sony’s Anyone But You is in the fourth position, earning £1.07 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its total to £7 million. One Life, another Warner Bros. movie, rounded out the top five with £858,245 in its third weekend, totaling £7.4 million.
Other notable entries in the top 10 include Universal’s The Holdovers, an awards season favorite with two Golden Globes and several Oscar and BAFTA nominations, which debuted with £689,771. Queen Rock Montreal, a concert film by Pathe Live, placed ninth with £285,110.
Elysian’s The Boy and the Heron, a film by renowned anime creator Miyazaki Hayao, earned £266,130 in its fourth weekend, totaling £4.4 million. This success makes it Miyazaki’s most successful film in the U.K. and Ireland, surpassing Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ponyo.
Vue, a major European cinema chain, has noted an increasing interest in anime films across Europe.
Looking ahead, there are several notable films set to release soon. Studiocanal’s horror film “Baghead” and Warner Bros.’ The Color Purple is opening in over 300 locations. Disney’s “All of Us Strangers,” starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal and a contender for six BAFTA awards, is also debuting. Curzon will be releasing the award-winning documentary Samsara.

Additionally, several unique films are set for release, including Miracle Comms’ sci-fi romance Forever Young, Vertigo Releasing’s action-thriller Jackdaw, and Verve Pictures’ documentary This Blessed Pot. Padre Pio, starring Shia LaBeouf and directed by Abel Ferrara, is also set to release following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2022. Source
