Gold House and CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) recently announced their fourth annual Gold List. This list highlights the best contributions from the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in the entertainment industry over the past year.

Jeremy Tran, the executive director of Gold House, explained that the Gold List helps to recognize creative works, especially from communities that have often been ignored or left out. He emphasized that every successful project opens doors for more creative opportunities in these communities.

The film “Past Lives” by Celine Song topped the list. Industry leaders from the community vote for these awards, which guide voters during the awards season. “Past Lives” received nominations for best picture, best director, and best original screenplay for Song. Greta Lee was nominated for her leading role, and Teo Yoo was mentioned for his supporting role.

Other notable mentions include Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and The Heron” for best-animated feature and Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Can’t Catch Me Now” from “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” Charles Melton was also recognized for his supporting role in the film “May December” by Todd Haynes.

Charles Melton expressed his excitement about the impressive work being done by the AAPI community on a global scale. He encouraged continued support and empowerment through diverse artistic expressions.

The 2024 Gold List also marked a significant recognition of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander talents. Lindsay Watson was awarded for her breakout performance in The Wind & the Reckoning. Other honorable mentions included Taika Waititi, Keanu Reeves, and Stan Walker for their contributions in various categories.

The year 2023 saw great success for Asian-Pacific filmmakers and actors. Gold House found that 22% of high-grossing films had an Asian Pacific director, screenwriter, or lead actor. The 2023 Gold List winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once” set several records during the awards season, including Michelle Yeoh’s historic win as the first Asian best actress.

Michelle K. Sugihara, executive director of CAPE, highlighted the importance of uplifting these achievements, especially after a challenging year. She noted that these projects add depth to storytelling and showcase the diversity of their communities.
